Here we have a wonderfully rare retro espresso machine. It is a CMA Astoria Lever machine, which can be powered either using mains electric or portable LPG gas. The lever operation means that the machine can work without the need for any electrical power at all, so it is perfect for mobile catering! The machine will still need pressured water to it however (as do all espresso machines) but this is very simple to do by means of a 24v flojet pump or diaphragm pump connected to your tanked water supply.

It is finished in gleaming stainless steel and black panels. It does have expected scratches but the overall condition of the machine is fantastic!

It has been completely stripped down to a bare frame and rebuilt to ensure it is excellent working order and looks cosmetically beautiful. These machines are quite rare to come across and if you are not familiar with them you will see that they operate slightly different to a normal traditional espresso machine. Usually the groupheads would be operated via switches or touchpads which would electrically open valves for water to pass through, and at the same time turn on a electrically operated pump which ramps up the water pressure to 9 bar in order to create the ideal parameters for good espresso. There is alot going on but all the user does is push a switch.

However with this machine the 9 bar ideal pressure is created by operating the lever. These machines don't require a tremendous amount of skill to initially operate, however the user will start to generate much better espresso with experience. The machine is super retro and vintage looking. It is wonderfully crafted and really catches the eye. It has been kept simple in stainless steel, black and chrome so it will fit in absolutely anywhere.

All the pipe work on the machine has been completely descaled, and to be fair it has to be said that the previous owner has really looked after this machine. There was very little scale builf up in it at all.

But with all machines that come in to us, they are completely stripped down, descaled and cleaned regardless of their original condition. The fact that thi smachine had been so well looked after just made the job so much easier!

As you can see in picture no 5, the boiler is perfectly clean and free of any limescale. Limescale is without doubt the biggest killer of espresso machines. It is caused by mineral deposits in the water building up and creating a'crusty' rock within the machine. It causes the machine to run uneconomically as it will take longer to heat up.

It also blocks up pipework causing the machine not to work properly, and can also cause important safety features to fail! All of this on top of making your coffee taste poor. But rest assured this machine has been professionally descaled and is all working wonderfully.

Water is flowing easily from the group heads and steam billows out of the steam wands! The best way to prevent scale build up is to invest in a good quality water filter. But please keep in mind that these filters also have a shelf life and are designed to be periodically changed. Everything on this macine has been put back together using brand new seals, gaskets, O rings, springs, copper O rings, teflon flanges etc etc. All perishable parts are replaced on our rebuilds, regardless of original condition.

This is something we do to ensure longevity of the machine and ot make sure no nasty leak suprises spring up in 3 or 4 months time. The result is a wonderfully economical machine, running perfectly and creating excellent espresso.

The machine has been fitted with two brand new steam wands, as well as three brand new steam/hot water knobs. The old knobs and wands were perfectly functional but they had started to look a litle tired and so it was thought best to replace them so to keep up with the condition of the rest of the machine. The steam/hot water valves have been completley descaled, cleaned and polished and put back together with brand new seals, gaskets etc and are working perfectly.

The wands produce excellent'dry' steam which is perfect for foaming milk for cappuccino, latte etc. The lever group heads on the machine have also been stripped down and rebuilt, as well as being completely descaled and cleaned.

They have been reassembled with all brand new seals, gaskets etc and as you can see in picture no 6,7 and 10, they are as clean inside as they are out. The outer chrome of the group head has been machine polished to give a wonderful gleaming finish, even though the majority of it is unfortunately hidden away behind the front panel. All the panels on the machine have been nicely polished and look great.

The'Astoria' badges are finished in gold to compliment the stainless steel and it really does look great! If you are in a position to do so then I strongly reccommend that you come and view the machine to really get a feel of how great it is. So the real beauty of this machine is that it is dual fuel! It can either be powered using electric or LPG gas. The electric cable can be connected to 16amp power (can be downrated to 13amp - please make aware if this is what you would like).

It will then use the electric heating element within the boiler to heat up and create pressure. The user however still uses the lever arms in order to extract the espresso. The heating element is very quick and heats the machine up easily. It has also been descaled and fitted back into the machine using a brand new gasket. The machine is also fitted with a LPG gas burner, situated beneath the boiler and shown in picture no 8.

It is very easy to start, as it has a piezo igniter fitted on the bottom front panel to light the boiler. The gas valve is set up to heat the boiler to the correct oeprating pressure so all you have to do is light it and then the gas will regulate itself by turning the burner onto full or pilot light to maintain the correct pressure. It is very fast and efficient.

The boiler is topped up with water by a fill push switch on the bottom right of the front panel. You can view the boiler water level via the sight glass on the right hand side and top up as required. The machine comes with 3m of brand new gas hose and a brand new gas regulator so it all ready to be connected to gas (or electric).

It is perfect for a catering trailer or even somewhere that wants to use the original retro method of espresso extraction. You may see these machines built into vintage coffee bikes or in the back of vans. They are so versatile and simple to use, very easy to maintain and with a little bit of practice you will be creating amazing drinks! It comes with two portafilters, one double and one single. If you would require any more please just let me know and im sure I can accomodate you.

It also comes with all necessary hoses, pipes, waste hoses etc so it really is ready to be connected up and used. Viewing anytime is absolutely fine, please just call to arrange. I know these machines draw alot of attention from buyers on the south coast which makes it difficult to come and view, so if there is any specific pictures/video you would like to see then please don't hesitate to ask. All panels can be removed for inspection there is absolutely nothing to hide on this machine. It has been kept original and looks all the more better for it.

If you have not already done so then please take a look at the video at the top of this page to see the actual machine in action. From there you will also be able to view some of my other videos to get an idea of how far we go on these machines. I specialise solely on traditional espresso machines and nothing else.

It will be securely wrapped and strapped to a pallet, with adequate packaging to ensure it gets to you in the same condition it leaves me. I have used the same pallet company for many years and find them excellent. Thank you so much for taking the time to read through this description, I hope I have been thorough enough without boring you too much.
