Faema e61 Legend 2 Group Espresso Machine. Semi-Auto. Serviced and Refurbished

I have had three of these Legends during my 10 years working with coffee (I'm a Roaster) and they are simply brilliant machines - easy to work on, widely availability & well-priced parts, superbly temperature stable and just a joy to pull shots on... Not to mention just to look at. So I'm sad to let it go but I just don't need two - this listing is for the 2nd machine on the bench, far right.

It is a c2007 machine, overhauled and refurbished by Thijs Mastenbrook at Brooks Espresso Machines in the Netherlands. Subsequently it's in great condition but does of course have some signs of age and use as expected. You could spend a little time buffing it up but I say it's pretty damn great as it is. The iconic glass panel, with light-bulb, is present but its missing one of the 4 grub screws. My other one is the same but its fine with just 3. All trays - 2 drips and cup warming etc.

Are present, as is the smoked plastic cup surround. The machine has a water line attached and power cable but will need a drain pipe.

These are cheap, easily available and just jubilee clip onto the drain. Anyone installing this machine for you will be able to fit one. It can draw from a tank too of course, as my other one does.

You just need a Flowjet external pump and a water carrier. The boiler was stripped and along with all HeatXchanger pipes etc. All the electrics were overhauled and all washers, springs and seals replaced. The shower screens were also replaced. It comes with two good quality group handles, one with single and one with double basket.

The spouts are still present - these can be easily removed if you prefer. One handle cover is split but I'll include a brand new handle too. I'm also including a manual, a new shot glass for timing and a new group head brush. Hey, I'll even throw in a bag of my beans! It's 3Phase, so perfect for a commercial premises but equally it can be'converted' to single phase with adaption of the heating element. My other e61 was 3Phase too but was converted 7 years ago and works brilliantly on a 13amp plug. As well as roasting, I lug my kit these are heavy machines... Around for events, using it as part of my mobile set-up and it has worked flawlessly. And it always draws a crowd.

Two weeks ago, I did an afternoon cycle event and made 238 cups of coffee, non-stop, one after the other. As usual, the E61 performed flawlessly, producing perfect temp shots and micro-steamed milk time and time again.

Did I mention how much I love these machines... If you're local Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire etc.. I can recommend my coffee tech guy who can convert it to single phase if required, not to mention help with installation and servicing over the coming years. This machine is semi-auto (the best in my opinion) so to operate and pull a shot, you lift the lever on each group to draw water to the head.

When the shot has pulled, you put the lever back down and the head shuts off. If you are new to coffee, it's a fantastic way to learn how to pull shots, adjusting grind and tamp etc. To get'your' optimum 58ml of delicious shot in 28 seconds.. As stated, I haven't used this machine as the event was cancelled but Thijs sent me a video of it running sublimely.

If I can locate the video, I'll post the link on here. You can also see from the machine that it's been worked on to an exceptional level and will provide years and years of superb service.

If you have a busy café or similar and like these Faema machines, a modern Legend is a very practical choice. The original machines are nice but they do require more regular input, care and attention. Alternatively, put it in your kitchen and all your friends will love you.

I encourage anyone interested to come and have a look, so I can pull you a shot on my other machine and if you haven't used these machines before, have a go yourself. The hands-on feeling of using one of these E61's is really quite special and they do carve out a place in your heart. Ridiculous right, it's'just' coffee? Nonsense, its ALL about coffee! Due to weight, its collection only but it will fit in a fairly standard sized boot.
