Zacconi Riviera vintage lever coffee machine - rare and wonderful! This beautiful machine is very special. It was handbuilt in Italy by Zacconi of Milan sometime between the 70s and early 90s. Crafted of solid brass it is weighty, substantial and absolutely beautifully built.
It is lever operated - the handle pulls espresso shots with a spring loaded piston. Coffee conoisseurs love lever machines as they offer real controllability, with the Riviera noted for pulling very smooth coffee. I have only used this machine as an ornament - I imported it on impulse from Italy during lockdown and don't need it, so it's time to go to a loving home.
However, unusually for machines of this age, it powers on perfectly and the internal boiler works as it should. The lever and piston assembly operate well as does the steam wand. The pressure gauge (manometer) is brand new. Fill cap and release valve seem fine to me.
The only issue I can see from my brief test-fire is the gaskets at the top and bottom of the sight glass are leaking - new gaskets are included in the sale. Please assume it needs a service and perhaps other new gaskets too if it is to be used in anger. Do look closely at the pictures as they form part of the description. No accessories, only the machine and UK plug adapter. This thing weighs a ton, and will be tricky to package safely, so I'd prefer collection from Thames Ditton, near Surbiton Surrey. I will post but it will be pretty costly. The item "Zacconi Riviera vintage lever coffee machine rare and wonderful! Like Pavoni" is in sale since Sunday, October 10, 2021.
